Wearing the right clothing for your session can really take your photos to the next level. I highly suggest using this tips to style your next session. It will really make things stand out and help me create my art that you have fallen in love with.
I know getting outfits for your session can be such a daunting task but that's why I am here to help! I've created this styling guide to help you through every little detail. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.
Colors & Contrast
Colors are SO important for photoshoots. I usually recommend some bold colors and have some contrast. You don't want everyone wearing the same color but have colors that compliment each other. This also helps give some contrast and makes things pops. Do not have everyone wearing the same outfits, same jeans, same colored shirts. Give everyone in the family different colors that all look cohesive together. Put mom in something dark, dad in something light, and kids in some medium tones. This helps everyone stand out and insures that we don't have big blobs of one color.
Textures & Patterns
Textures and patterns are the next step to a cohesive look. They help make a look a little more interesting and gives it some character. Textures help give some give some movement and dimension. Sweaters, cardigans, corduroy, velvet, denim, fringe, lace, jewelry, and lines are really great for adding textures. Patterns create more visual appeal but be careful you aren't adding too many patterns. Keep patterns simple like with florals, flannels, or stripes. Make sure patterns aren't too small as they won't come up as nice on camera.
Layers & Skin
Layers are a great way to keep things cozy, add some movement, and add more movement and visual interest. Use different options like cardigans, blankets, overalls, vests, jackets, etc.
Skin can also make things very intimate but by also keeping things classy. With women, do whatever you are comfortable with but some great options are off the shoulder shirts, crops tops, dresses or skirts with slits, low hemlines, cleavage but all within good taste. With boys try to avoid shorts unless you have them on young children or babies. You can also use tank tops or even shirtless depending on the type of shoot we are doing.
